Description
Biktarvy (bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide) is a prescription medication used to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and children weighing at least 14 kg. It is a complete, once-daily single-tablet regimen that combines three antiretroviral agents:
- Bictegravir – an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that prevents the virus from integrating into human DNA.
- Emtricitabine and Tenofovir alafenamide – nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that block HIV replication.
Together, these components help reduce the amount of HIV in the body, maintain immune function, and prevent the progression to AIDS when taken consistently as prescribed.
