It plays a vital role in the digestion and absorption of fats by emulsifying lipids in the intestine. Clinically, CDCA is used as a medication to dissolve cholesterol gallstones and to treat certain liver and bile acid synthesis disorders, such as cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX). It works by reducing cholesterol production and promoting bile flow.
