Description
Chenodeoxycholic Acid (CDCA) is a naturally occurring primary bile acid synthesized in the liver from cholesterol. It plays a vital role in the digestion and absorption of fats by emulsifying lipids in the intestine. Clinically, CDCA is used as a medication to dissolve cholesterol gallstones and to treat certain liver and bile acid synthesis disorders, such as cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX). It works by reducing cholesterol production and promoting bile flow. Chenodeoxycholic acid is also one of the two main bile acids in humans, the other being cholic acid.
